Earl Brown - The Smyth County Jam welcomes Earl Brown from Bristol, VA Earl has been singing and playing banjo and bass for forty years. He played in the Washington DC area for a long while. Earl says he has played with the popular band "New Shades of Grass" and mentioned playing with the Country Gentlemen who have a been a much admired and copied band for many years. Earl has a twin brother who is currently playing with "The Country Cut-ups". He has retired from the railroad after forty-two years of service. Earl comes from a very musical family, his nephew plays with "Second Time Around" band in the DC area. He says he likes the music of Flatt and Scruggs, Reno and Smiley, and the Stanley Brothers.
