Jim Coe (deceased) - Jim was born in West Virginia in 1927 and was the seventh child of fourteen children; most all of whom played music in some form or another. Jim passed away in 2002 of cancer. Jim was not only an excellent fiddler, but an accomplished composer of music, in particular; gospel music after becoming a Christian. He was a multi-talented musician who played a variety of stringed instruments such as bass, guitar as well as piano. It is for his superb fiddling Jim was well known in the area. He was father to three children. Jim played with the Flat Ridge Boys and made some CD's with them at one time. He is buried in Rosewood Cemetery near Rural Retreat. The Smyth County Jam staff is thankful to Mrs. Coe for this information.
Note: Jim never played at the Smyth County Jam, but a lot of the musicians who frequent the jam played with him at one time or another. For that reason, we found it appropriate to include a brief bio of him here.
